"10"

As I watched the ten women Don Imus and his cronies had so nonchalantly degraded on the air, I thought their press conference could have just as easily been held to introduce them to the nation as the newest team of NASA Astronauts. It wasn't just their matching jumpsuits or the obvious Serpo exchange image from "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind". It wasn't even the scene where McMurphy introduces his fellow mental patients as Doctors when they're busted just trying to truly go fishing in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". It was the fact that those girls could have been anything.

Girls Today. Members of the first diplomatic mission to another star system tomorrow.

Suspension of disbelief is not the sole property of Hollywood. It is a gift we should all exercise everyday.

I won't miss Bo Dietl, and Imus - trying to cover for the cohort who actually said the worst word of the day; one that starts with neither N or H, one that is truly too embarrassing to all Americans to ever be repeated - is finally getting what he deserves. They'll be lucky if their past actions result only in the same kind of judgment they handed out so easily to targets of Imus In The Morning - "NO ONE CARES!"

Bush is another story.

My Name is Michael Sterling, and I approved this message to - and for - Daughters everywhere.

Wrong.
I care. In fact, I contacted Imus over this issue. As well as CNN, and I will be contacting Rev. Sharpton as soon as I'm done typing this.

Probably not for the reasons you think, though. I don't condone what Imus said. But... I have watched as Rev. Sharpton and his cronies attack one person after another, having become professional finger pointers. I have watched as America, like some kid watching a reality show, has urged this movement on. The push for Political Correctness has become the modern day witch hunt. I'm not saying I like Imus, even. In fact, he's a nutcase. But attacking him personally for repeating what "we the people" say is appalling.

While in the Army, I met a lot of people from trailer parks. (There are a lot of them surrounding bases) The people were predominantly white southerners. And it was as common to hear the term "nappy headed" as to hear "ya'll". I have never considered this to be a racial term. And then there's "ho". I know a great many women are justifyably offended by this, but when I was in my 20's, that term was as common as "chick" was decades earlier. Do a search for how many movies and music videos use the word...

If one is a TRUE crusader, you fight no matter what the odds are. You don't take on the guys you can beat while leaving the big dogs to continue the offense. Sharpton sees a fellow rich man in Imus. Rich, but not "Oh my God" rich.... In other words, he stands a chance of making his point without having to personally pay for it. If he were a TRUE moral crusader, he would take on Warner Bros.

"Happy Feet" was a great movie. Fantastic art... I was in awe. And if you listen... FULL of racial stereotypes. And of you run it with the subtitles on, you'll notice something I didn't catch the first time. While singing one of the songs so prevalent in this in this flick, there on the screen read the words "Nappy Headed".

Imus isn't the point. Sharpton is. Will he turn the tables and attack Chris Rock for slamming white people? I can't even begin to take bets on that one... Not fair. Of course he won't. How deep does the hypocrisy run?

What would you do to end the Victorian sensitivity that seems so one sided and obviously racially motivated?

"Ah gots de biggests tits in town!"
Angelfood McSpade: 1968

R. Crumb knew what Imus failed to grasp almost 40 years later, and he retired Angelfood before she could truly outrage anyone not stoned enough to get the joke. Other cartoonists followed suit when the term "Jigaboo cartoons" sprang up, and I had NEVER heard that word since until it popped up on MSNBC.

I doubt you have ever said it.

It is very telling that EVERY replay of that fateful morning has studiously avoided being long enough for the entire conversation to be revealed. Very Soviet. I felt about Imus as I do about Drudge; I like his style but his politics suck. Noory and Art Bell continually let me down too, and there are times when I just turn the radio off in disgust at their bias and ignorance respectively. Imus alone, has reclaimed some of his stature with his admission that he was just plain embarrassed by what he'd said, and then, after his firing - very capitalist - that everybody should "stop whining".

I once said that if Osama was ever captured, he should be let loose in Times Square with twenty bucks in his pocket. Imus deserves no less.

R. Crumb was wiser than both of them put together.

The Summer Of Love also supplied your answer to "ending Victorian sensitivity"... don't live like a Victorian.

Man, Charlie was right. Helter Skelter is here and anchor news is fanning the flames...

Good thing Imus got canned. Can you imagine the Asian jokes that would have been flying on MSNBC the last couple of days?

Blacksburg to Baghdad. BRILLIANT.

How about Michelle Malkin on the monitor? Michelle Malkin substituting for Bill O'Reilly. Michelle Malkin INTERVIEWING Bill O'Reilly while he's on vacation... and Bo Dietling away in the dark.

Who's gonna clean THAT up?

Thanks for the visual...

The only frisson that matters to Bo Dietl is the thought of his cut of the $40M Imus settlement.
